Do you live with intense emotions such as anxiety, frustration, overwhelming sadness, anger, jealousy or sharp mood swings? Would you like a set of skills that helps you handle them rather than be carried by them?
This is a skillful behaviour teaching group, and the focus is on active learning. Rather than talking about emotions in the abstract, you practise concrete skills in the session and then use them between sessions in ordinary life. The programme is built on dialectical behaviour therapy, an approach with a long track record for people who feel emotions strongly and act on them quickly.
Noticing what is happening in the present moment, without immediately reacting to it or judging it.
Getting through a crisis point without making the situation worse, and knowing which tools work for you when feelings peak.
Recognising emotions as they build, understanding what they are asking for, and reducing how often you are ambushed by them.
Asking for what you need, saying no, and holding your ground in a relationship without damaging it.
The group suits adults who find their emotional responses larger, faster or longer lasting than they would like, and who want practical strategies rather than open ended conversation. Many people attend the programme alongside individual therapy, and some attend it on its own.
Groups run in intakes rather than continuously, so timing matters. Get in touch to find out when the next one starts and whether it is the right fit for you.
